Feel Good Inc.
Drums Tutorial - Step by Step
Learn the groove
Start with a basic groove, featuring 1/8 notes on the hi-hat, and a displaced kick on beat 3-&.
Learn the first fill
Practice the first fill. In bar 4, stop with snare and hi-hat on beat 2, and play the open hi-hat on beats 3 and 4, first with the kick, then with the snare. Repeat this 4 bar pattern four times to practice.
Learn the second fill
Now practice the second fill. In bar 3, pare back to just the 1/8 note hi-hats, and bring back the kick and snare on beat 3-& of the next bar. Repeat this 4 bar pattern four times to practice. Make sure to keep counting your 1/8 notes, "1-&-2-&-3-&-4-&".
Learn the bridge
Now practice the bridge, starting from the end of the section before. After 4 bars of groove, drop the 1/8 note hi-hat for 1 bar, and finish on a kick. After 8 bars of rest, bring the groove back in, and finish this section with the second fill.
Play the song
Now put the parts together to play the full arrangement. Play the first fill in bar 8, followed by the second after another 8 bars, and then the first again. Play another 8 bars of groove to take it to the bridge. After the bridge, there is another repeat of fill 1 - fill 2 - fill 1 to complete the song.
