Psychosocial
Drums Tutorial - Step by Step
Intro
Pick up with crash on beat 3. Use alternating feet to play the 1/16 note kick patterns with the guitar riff. Build up on snare, and play the 1/16 note triplet fill.
Verse
Move to an 1/8 note open hi-hat groove, playing the toms every 4 bars. Finish with a fill moving from 1/16 notes to triplets on low tom and kick at the end.
Chorus
Move to the crash for the chorus, mimicking the guitar riff with the kick. For the guitar solo, move from verse groove to chorus groove, and build into the bridge.
Bridge
Play 1/8 note kicks with the snare mimicking the guitar riff and adding hi-hat. Then mimick the riff on kick in half-time on open hi-hat, then crash.
Verse 2
Return to the verse groove, followed by a double chorus section to lead into the outro.
Outro
Play a variation on the bridge groove to start, before filling into the crash to finish. Play hits with the guitar riff to close out.
Combine and play
Now combine the sections to play the full arrangement.

Behind the track
Psychosocial
by Slipknot
Before Slipknot became one of the biggest metal bands on the planet, they were pressing their debut album independently out of Iowa - only 1000 copies were made, and collectors will pay up to $1000 to get their hands on one. "Psychosocial" came thirteen years into that story, landing on 2008's All Hope Is Gone and pulling Slipknot to a Grammy win for Best Metal Performance. Jordison's drumming on the track became the thing people talked about most: brutal intensity, yes, but always in service of the song. That ability to play at maximum aggression while staying genuinely musical is what made him one of the most respected metal drummers of his generation.
