Setting up the Pioneer Toraiz

We’ve created a handy project template to get your SP-16 going with Melodics.

First things first:

Download the project file!

Then unzip it to get the Melodics.prj file. Got it? Cool.

First time setup:
  1. Make sure the Toraiz is at firmware version 1.2 or above
  2. Connect the Toraiz to your computer via USB
  3. In the Toraiz UTILITY menu (the gear icon in the top right of the touch screen)
    1. Under MACHINE SETTING set MIDI I/F SELCT to USB MIDI
    2. Under SYSTEM click USB MASS STORAGE MODE (this should mount a hard drive on your computer)
    3. On your computer drag and drop the Melodics.prj in the SP-16 Projects directory of the mounted drive
    4. On the Toraiz click cancel
  4. Click the Document icon (top left) on the Toraiz touch screen
  5. Click OPEN
  6. Click Melodics.prj

And you should be ready to go!

Next time you use Melodics with the Toriaz
  1. If Melodics.prj was the last project loaded, you’re all set
  2. Click the Document icon (top left) on the Toraiz touch screen
  3. Click OPEN
  4. Click Melodics.prj

What hardware will you be using to play Melodics?

Melodics works best with hardware.

You can play it with your computer keyboard, but it is a much better experience with access to a MIDI keyboard, pad controller, or MIDI drum kit.
